
D.E.F.E.N.S.E CONTROL TACTICS TRAINING
Formerly called Use of Force training,
DEFENSE Control Tactics (DCT) is part of the Advanced Public and Private Law Enforcement and Security Guard Training programs. This course is designed to confidently prepare students in the lawful carry and use of Handcuffs and a Baton, including Use of Force legal responsibilities. All students must complete a Par-Q physical activity survey and waiver prior to starting the course.
Pursuant to the Private Security & Investigative Services Act (PSISA), S.O. 2005, any licenced Security Guard or Private Investigator who is authorized by their company to carry and use Handcuffs and/or a Baton must successfully complete qualified training.
Employers have an additional responsibility under the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA) to ensure that they take every precaution reasonable for the protection of their workers. This includes security personnel working in areas where there may be a risk to their personal safety.

Course Overview

Use of Force program is specifically designed for security and private law enforcement personnel and is taught by current and/or former police DCT/Use of Force experts. Providing students with firsthand knowledge and practical experience to ensure their actions are lawful.

This two-day course is designed to give students the academic theory and practical skills to safely and effectively use Handcuffs and a Baton as a licenced Security Guard or Private Investigator in Ontario, pursuant to the curriculum requirements set out by the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services. All students must successfully complete a written Use of Force exam and the Practical Skills Demonstration (PSD), which includes the completion of mandatory J.D.A.S (Judgement and Decision-Making Scenarios) simulation training.

Who Should Take This Course?
This course is designed as part of Advanced training for Security Guards and both Public and Private law enforcement personnel. This is a mandatory requirement for any licenced personnel carrying and using handcuffs and/or a baton.
Prerequisites
This course is open to applicants who currently hold a valid Ontario Security Guard Licence, MLEO, Bylaw Officers and Animal Control Officers. All applicants must complete a Student Application Form (available online) and full payment is required at the time of Registration.
Equipment Required
There is no training equipment required for this course. Student training manuals and all required reading materials are included in the cost of the course. All participants will be required to complete a mandatory PAR-Q physical activities questionnaire. Dress code is business casual for the classroom portion of the training and proper fitness attire will be required for the physical activities component.
Recurrency and Recertification
All certificates issued are valid for one year and must be renewed annually. Included as part of the DCT program are complimentary academic tracking and a re-currency training reminder service.
