
Bylaw Officer Certification Course-BASIC
The Bylaw Enforcement Officer Certification program is the first education and training program of its kind in Ontario. Participants attend a comprehensive, three-week in-class, training program taught by professional and experienced Instructors. Standardized, thorough and established based on public and private law enforcement best practices. Successful participants graduate with their Bylaw Officer Certification, as well as several other accredited certifications. Ultimately, providing participants with the highest level of education and training that successfully prepares them for their in-service orientation and onboarding.
The Basic Bylaw Enforcement Officer Certification course is run 4 times a year throughout Ontario at one of four training centres. Making it easy for scheduling and recruiting. All modules are in-class and participants must successfully pass all courses to graduate. In order to maintain certification, successful candidates must complete annual re-qualification training.

Course Overview
This course is designed to give students the academic theory and practical knowledge to be eligible to become certified as a Bylaw Enforcement Officer in Ontario.

What Certificates Do You Get?
Upon successful graduation from the BYLAW Enforcement Officer Certification program, students will receive the following certificates:
- 4 or 5 STEP Hazardous Awareness
- Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) 2105
- Standard First Aid/CPR/AED and Naloxone
- CRISIS Communications and De-escalation
- Mental Health First Aid (MHFA)
- Use of Force Theory and BATON Certification
- BYLAW Enforcement Officer Certification
Who Should Take This Course?
Anyone looking to become a Municipal or Regional Bylaw Enforcement Officer or an existing Bylaw Enforcement Officer.
Prerequisites
This course is open to anyone 18 years of age or older who meets Municipal licencing requirements, including having a clean criminal record and a valid driver's licence. All applicants must complete a Student Application Form (available online) and full payment is required at the time of Registration.
Equipment Required
There is no training equipment required for this course. Student training manuals and all required reading materials are included in the cost of the course, as well as a patrol duty notebook. Mandatory student dress code is business casual.
Annual Re-Qualification
All Bylaw Enforcement Officers must complete all mandatory annual Re-Qualification, including MLEO-Basic, Use of Force, 4 or 5 STEP Hazard Awareness, and WHMIS 2015. Standard First Aid and CPR/AED must be completed every three years.
