CANSEC Instructors Respond to Emergency

We are very proud of two of our Use of Force/DEFENSE Control Tactics Instructors, Al Grose and Simon Langler who on their way to teach a class today came upon a fresh head-on, high-speed mvc, including a fatality and injuries. Like true professionals (and former Police Officers), they rose to the occasion and gave comfort, leadership and incident command. Well done gentleman!

Security Gaurd License

If you are looking into being a Security Guard it is necessary to have a Security Guard License in the Province of Ontario. This license can be used in hotel security, event security, bodyguard’s, etc.

Here at Canadian Security Training we offer a Basic Security Guard Training Course, it is a 40-hour training course as specified by the Ministry of Community Safety & Correctional Service.

This course is conveniently structured to allow students to start at any time and covers a variety of topic including: the Canadian legal system, effective communication, note taking and report writing, officer safety, Emergency First Aid and CRP, as well as many other instruction and scenario based training/testing.

DEFENSE Control Tactics

Did you know Canadian Security Training provides DEFENSE Control Tactics Courses? These courses include Handcuff and Baton Certification, Use of Force-DEFENSE and De-escalation/CRISIS Communication.

These courses teach participants effective de-escalation strategies, sound judgment and effective decision-making. This training provided participants with the strategies and skills to be able to effectively handle emergency defense situations mentally and physically.

All DEFENSE Control Tactics courses are taught by highly qualified former or serving police officers.

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas! From the staff at Canadian Security Training we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a happy holiday! Although times are different right now we hope you to have a wonderful time during this different holiday season and are able to celebrate in your own new way. Safe Working Conditions

Working outside in cold conditions isn’t just uncomfortable, it can be dangerous. There are many effects the cold can take on your body such as frostbite, hypothermia, and numbing. As the weather changes and gets cold, snowy and icy it is important to practice safe working procedures to keep yourself warm, hydrated and safe.

Here are some tips for working outside in the cold this winter:

Dress for the Conditions: Wearing layers as well as thermals under your clothes can make all the difference when working outside. These layers should be loose and breathable to avoid discomfort.

Leave Early: Roads can be very icy and slippery in the winter, especially in the early mornings. Plan on leaving 10-20 minutes early to give yourself extra time, drive slowly and be aware of road conditions before you leave.

Stay Dry: Plan on wearing waterproof coats and boots and bring extra clothes in case your get damp.

Stay Hydrated and Nourished: You can still get dehydrated in winter weather despite the cold. Be sure to eat and stay nourished. Your body needs nutrients in cold temperatures.

First Aid and CPR

It is important to be prepared for emergency situations since you never know when they can strike. A core skill/course that can help you prepare for these situations is First Aid and CPR. This course is vital to an organization and individuals to ensure the safety of themselves and their staff.

In this course participants learn how to respond to an emergency, assess and treat injuries, conduct breathing and circulation exercises, initiate first aid protocols, identify and respond to respiratory and cardiac arrest, learn how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and how to prepare First Aid incident reports.

At Canadian Security Training our First Aid instructors have extensive knowledge and experience in Emergency Preparedness, to teach you and your staff how to be prepared.

Defining Terms in Our Industry

In the industry of Security there are many abbreviations, terms and expressions that are used in day to day operations. In this post we thought we would define some of these terms and short forms we use at Canadian Security Training every day to help our clients, partners and followers have a better understanding of our terminology.

C.O.R.E: Compulsory Orientation Required by all Employees. This applies to training courses that are considered essential courses for all employees in an organization.

AODA: Accessibility for Ontarians with Disability Act. This is an Act initiated in Ontario and has made it mandatory for organizations to have AODA training.

C.R.I.S.I.S Training: Critical Response Intervention Strategies and Incident Safety.

C.R.I.S.I.S Training provides your staff with the skills to mentally and physically prepare them to handle a critical situation or threat of workplace violence.

ERP: Emergency Response Planning. This is a plan that can be used individually or in organizations to create a course of action for emergency situations and protocols.

In many ways, implementing new COVID-19 Policies and Procedures is a good test of every company's Emergency Response Plan (ERP). In particular, Business Continuity planning and Communications.

Things will be very different for a long time. The key to navigating the COVID-19 pandemic is planning. Both operational and financial. As well as Employee wellness. It will take a lot of patience and out-of-the-box thinking. A true test to Team performance and co-operation under the IRS.
